Quick Intro: Can Athletes Get Recruited to College Sports from Small, Remote Communities?

The Outer Banks is a small community, well removed from the closest metropolitan area – Virginia Beach / Norfolk / Chesapeake.

Great ingredients to enjoy a quiet beach town.

Challenging ingredients to build a strong youth sports career to push to the college athletics level.

High school sports are great. But they are only 1/4 of the year – limited training, limited competition.

High school sports can be a component of the drive to college, but high school sports will not be the sole factor leading to college.

Athletes from the Outer Banks can travel 3 hours round trip, multiple times per week, to seek the additional training, competition, and exposure teams in the Virginia Beach area can offer. But you trade much of your time to gain those potential benefits.

Ultimately, those travel hours are not a guarantee to the next level. College coaches don’t know your club team. Or the tournament you played in.

College coaches have A LOT of players to choose from and limited time to make their selections.

College coaches aren’t coming to find us. We need to find them. We need to stand out.

I believe we can do this training on the Outer Banks.

Can we focus a small group of motivated players on a plan to…

  • Develop high-level soccer skills
  • Participate in select competitive leagues, tournaments, and camps
  • Maintain solid grades
  • Build well-rounded interests (we won’t need to travel)
  • Connect with college coaches
  • Sell their potential to college coaches

If we can keep the team motivated and focused, it’s worth a shot.
